Indian American Biotech Leader Heads Maryland Women Entrepreneur Institute

Santhanam brings decades of experience in the life sciences sector, where she has held senior leadership roles and driven innovation in drug development and translational research. Her appointment reflects IWEE's commitment to fostering entrepreneurship among women in Maryland's growing technology and biotech corridors.

As chair, Santhanam will guide the institute's strategic direction, focusing on mentorship, access to capital, and networking opportunities for women founders. She succeeds the previous chair, whose term concluded after two years of expanding IWEE's statewide programs.

Santhanam, who holds a doctorate in molecular biology, has been an active advocate for diversity in STEM fields. She has previously served on IWEE's advisory council and has mentored numerous early-stage startups in the region.

The institute, based in Rockville, Maryland, supports women entrepreneurs through workshops, pitch competitions, and investor connections. Santhanam's term begins January 2026, and she will work with the board to launch new initiatives aimed at closing the gender gap in business ownership.
